A closely followed crypto strategist and trader says Solana (SOL) and three additional altcoins are his best picks for longer-term holds.

Pseudonymous analyst Altcoin Sherpa tells his 223,400 followers on the social media platform X that SOL will likely remain in an uptrend as long as it holds $110 as support.

In addition to SOL, the analyst reveals other picks for “longer-term buys,” including crypto gambling platform Rollbit’s native token RLB, the layer-1 protocol Saga (SAGA) and Bittensor (TAO), a decentralized blockchain platform that focuses on machine learning and AI.

“Longer-term buys: RLB (shilled a lot plus ‘real value’ plus NFL). SAGA chart looks good. TAO at $200 (AI). SOL from $130-$110 still good in my opinion.”

Zeroing in on SAGA, the analyst suggests that the token is currently trading in a range after carving a bottom.

“SAGA I think this thing looks pretty good for a DCA (dollar cost averaging)/spot position. Looks to have found a bottom and consolidating over three months and ranging despite BTC being iffy.”

Solana is trading for $133 at time of writing, up more than 3% in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, RLB is trading for $0.094 at time of writing, up 9.34% on the day, SAGA is trading for $1.53, up 13.23% on the day and TAO is trading for $276, up 10.71% in the last 24 hours.

The analyst also reveals his “swing trade” picks, including Helium (HNT), a Solana-based asset that uses hotspots to connect wireless devices to its network, lending platform Aave (AAVE) and Solana competitor Sui (SUI).

Looking closer at HNT, the analyst suggests HNT could retest lower levels in the near term after a sudden breakout.

“HNT finally got into this one. It’s being twapped or bought up by someone and it’s got a bizarre chart. I’ve been tweeting about this one for weeks at this point and traded it well before and bought on the recent move down. Holding for a bit with other orders lower.”

HNT is trading for $7.61 at time of writing, down 7.3% in the last 24 hours.

The makers of W-Coin, a Telegram-based tap-to-earn game, opted to let players decide on one of three major blockchain networks to mint its token on. And as announced Wednesday, players overwhelmingly picked the network of choice for the Telegram space, The Open Network (TON).

The Open Network dominated the player poll, according to a message in the official W-Coin Telegram channel, securing 68% of the votes with over 8.8 million players supporting the network. Solana finished second with 24% of the vote, with Ethereum last with 8% of votes.

While Solana and Ethereum are much more established networks with substantially more value locked up in their ecosystems, TON has become closely aligned with Telegram and will host the tokens of several other prominent games built on the messaging platform.

TON was originally created by Telegram, but now operates independently via community developers after Telegram abandoned it in 2020 amid regulatory scrutiny. Over the past year, Telegram has started to embrace and integrate TON, including paying channel owners a share of ad revenue in crypto and launching an in-app currency linked to TON.

All of that has come amid a rise in Telegram mini apps built around cryptocurrency—most notably tap-to-earn games like Notcoin and the upcoming Hamster Kombat. Notcoin’s TON token NOT is still this year’s biggest gaming token launch, reaching a peak market cap of nearly $3 billion, though it has fallen substantially since.

Hamster Kombat has amassed more than 300 million players to date and will launch its HMSTR token on TON on September 26. Other notable Telegram games that are planning to launch tokens on TON in the coming weeks include Rocky Rabbit and X Empire.

It’s still unknown when W-Coin plans to launch its WCOIN token. The game, which has amassed nearly 20 million players to date per in-game statistics, recently added a “W-AI” game mode that lets players invest in upgrading a fictional trading bot that generates passive income.

A blend of macroeconomic triggers and market dynamics marked April’s crypto crash. The US’s persistent inflation and hot labor market led to a significant selloff in US treasuries, impacting cryptocurrencies that are sensitive to such macroeconomic factors. Additionally, the behavior of the spot Bitcoin ETFs, which, contrary to expectations, acted more as a trading instrument than a stable investment, contributed to April’s downturn.

Altcoins suffered acutely due to poor liquidity and heavy unlocking schedules, leading to a dramatic drop not seen since the tumultuous events of 2022.

“The medium performer of the top 100 tokens on CoinMarketCap in April saw a decline of 33%, compared with a milder 15.5% dip for Bitcoin and Ethereum,” Yan explained.

However, after a series of positive macroeconomic updates, Yan sees a silver lining. The introduction of the US Treasury Department’s first bond buyback program since 2002 and a dovish statement from the Federal Open Market Committee have helped stabilize the crypto market. These factors contributed to Bitcoin’s over 10% rebound in just a few days.

Looking into May, Yan predicts it to be a “very macro month for crypto.” He expects market stability until the mid-month Consumer Price Index report, likely influencing market direction. Specifically, Yan is bullish on categories like Solana, AI-driven coins, and meme tokens.

“Solana category, AI category and Memes category are my top picks for the catchup trade – they should outperform Bitcoin in May. In general, I don’t think the theses for a very bullish 2024 is challenged at all. However, the April crash is a great lesson to all market players,” Yan asserted.
