Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s Mac McBride to speak at community event in Solana Beach – San Diego Union-Tribune

How much do you really know about the world-famous Del Mar Racetrack right next to Solana Beach? Join Solana Beach Community Connections on Tuesday, July 16, at 5:30 p.m. as Mac McBride, director of media for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, speaks about the racetrack’s rich history along with the riches to be had at its betting window.

McBride’s background includes working for several racing publications in the east and Canada. He and his wife moved to San Diego in the ’70s. He then received a phone call from Dan Smith, former director of media at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, asking him if he wanted to work at the track that summer. “I signed on and have been lucky enough to ride along ever since,” McBride said in a news release.

The Del Mar Racetrack is a world-class thoroughbred racing destination welcoming the industry’s top athletes and California’s most spiritedpartygoers during its summer and fall seasons.

Opened in 1937 by Bing Crosby, Del Mar is known for its sophistication, fashion and excitement of horse racing that attracts visitors from across the country looking to capture the Old Hollywood allure.

This presentation is part of the Solana Beach Community Connection’s Summer Lecture Series supported by the city’s Parks and RecreationCommission. Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach, the presentation is free and open to the public.
